Not Good Enough

It would seem that if three words were to sum up both the efforts of Liverpool FC and this blog over the last three weeks, then the three up above would probably be as good as any.

There are lots of reasons for the poor run of form and I’ve got quite a few ideas as to why that is, some of which I will try and get out of my system over today and tomorrow. Though hopefully more the former than the latter.

I should probably offer some explanation as to why I suddenly disappear. Partly it’s to do with laziness and partly it’s to do with my gaming addiction. Alright, addiction is perhaps stretching it but I can get into a good game in the same way that someone gets into a good book. And having a panchant for open-world RPGs (in particular Fallout 3) doesn’t really help that. So, there we are. If you wonder why I suddenly disappear for a while, there’s your answer.

No post for you

If get the reference, then your welcome here

If get the reference, then you're welcome here

Nothing from me today, suffering from usual weekend illness of Lazyarsecantbearseditis, something that afflicts me on almost every Saturday. I’m genuinely feeling a bit under the weather having had a busy few days, so I will catch-up with news and such tomorrow before the game. Straight after I catch up on sleep.

So that’s it. A busy day tomorrow for me, which includes a game I’m feeling strangely confident about.

Chh-Chhh-Chhhanges

Hammond_White

I knew I added a Twitter account for the blog for a reason. And it wasn’t to find out how to not have to pay for teeth whitening.

Delicious now offer users a chance to post saved bookmarks direct to Twitter, specifically this account right here, so I’ve decided as of Monday that the daily round-ups will take on a slightly different look, mainly with the immediate aim of adding a bit of variety to the recent posts column. I’m proud to be (generally) going through the chaff to find the wheat but it’s clear that it isn’t bringing people to the site and it also frankly looks a tiny bit ridiculous. So, in the hope of encouraging some more creative writing (and, in return, traffic) the daily news updates will still include all the days bookmarks but will offer more of my own personal take on the days news. Basically, it’s a daily version of what I occassionally do sometimes (comment a bit more about a specific article) but doing it every day which should in turn free up my mind to focus on other things. Though like anything around here, don’t bet on it to be a success from the start. Or indeed at the finish. Or at any point in between either.

And we’re back

Anfield_Sports_Bar_Lucerne

So then, nice long rest and I think it’s about time I started posting actually content rather than using the site as some kind of LFC news aggregator.  Which I still want the site to be, just not have it be exclusively that.  I must admit that the first two weeks of the season we’re something of a letdown and were one of the reasons why I haven’t been on here much.  Well, that and I’m a lazy cock, obviously.

I must also admit that I probably got caught up in the same pre-season hype as most British journalists did.  Reading some of the hyperbole before the start of the season, you got the impression that we were going to go out and put every team to the sword and put five or six past the opposing keeper every half.  Which of course was never going to happen.

Moving on

I think we can all agree that Sunday was difficult but I think when put into perspective, something that isn’t always done with modern football, it wont matter a great deal.

The season has now started which means that my efforts around here will be slightly more than simply bookmarking stuff and the site auto-blogging it. The article about the Spurs game is a sign of sort of thing I want to be churning out regularly around here, so with a bit of luck, there should be some interesting articles. Or at the very least, some articles.

There are some other things I’d like to do. Tweaking the look of the site so it looks a bit less narrow is probably a good start and I am considering adding some kind of Youtube integration too, just for some completeness. One thing I have sorted out recently if the addition of a bookmarking feature, so if there is something around here that takes your interest, then please feel free to bookmark it and share the love.

Excuses

There are many reasons WHY I have not updated the site much over the summer.  These include;

  • I’m a lazy fecker
  • Lack of any real news (other than the small matter of a transfer of a midfielder than you may or may not have heard of)
  • Wii Sports Resort and gaming in general
  • Work
  • eBay
  • Work on eBay
  • I’m a lazy fecker

You get the idea.  I would also have thrown in some kind of excuse about the weather but it has been unremitting doom and gloom since pretty much the 1st July, so that one goes out the window straight away. And they promised us a “Barbeque summer”, pah!  Though it’s all the press’s fault for reporting that, obviously.

The news updates have been trickling through and apart from the odd nuggest here and there, it has been either news about Xabi, Javier or the fact that the club is about to be declared insolvent.  Or that the club is about to be declared insolvent if we don’t sell Javier and Xavi (it’s either got a B or a V in it.  Doesn’t really matter in all honesty now, does it?)

The Lull Of Summer

With the traditional two weeks of Summer where the nation pretends to care about tennis, knowing full well that a) it doesn’t and b) we haven’t been good at tennis since before the second World War, we can all start to focus our attention back onto footballing matters.

My efforts here have been half-assed, and I really do want to turn this site into something not necessarily important but at least have my opinion heard and respected. That is, after all, the point of most blogs, isn’t it?

It hasn’t helped that there has been bugger all news about either. The traditional two weeks of futile despair aka Wimbledon are now over and done with (particularly as the mens final looked at one point as if it might still be going on as I write) and we can now turn our minds back to more pressing concerns such as when and how the bloody hell the Xabi Alonso saga is going to end.

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up, then here is a neat summary;

Getting there

Not even going to bother explaining lack of updates. Combination of sloth and ignorance, I’m afraid. Doesn’t help either that the “experimental” (read broken) auto blogging feature over at Delicious hasn’t been churning out auto updates, which would have helped fill the void. I have been bookmarking and sharing them over there, just that feature hasn’t been working. Ho hum….

Regardless, that is now a problem of the past. That post you (may) see below was a test for a WordPress plugin that should take care of that little problem now, which in turn should mean a tiny bit more content around here. Another problem crossed off the list is that all the posts are now properly tagged, so if you after the old Blogger posts, you can now find them by searching for Blogger in the search bar. Or alternately, if you want to read some of my comments from the last World Cup, again, just enter World Cup and you should find them. I may even sort out the categories later as well, just to get absolutely everything sorted.

Hmm, Yummy!

Well, I promised I was working on things behind the scenes to do with the site and I’m glad to say that I can now announce that I now have a Delicious page.

For those that are unfamiliar, Delicious is a form of social bookmarking where users can share links with other users. And it’s where I will be bookmarking various Liverpool related news stories throughout the course of the week. I’ve been getting in a good habit recently of checking through the British newspapers newsfeeds at least every other day and finding the various nuggets of information that reside in them.  In time (hopefully over the next few days) I will decide whether to do auto blogging of any new stories or whether to pick out the most relevant half dozen or so, in much the same way as the excellent F1 Fanatic blog does on a daily basis.

So, if you fancy some reading while I’m not about here, which to be fair is fairly often, then head over to my Delicious page and feed yourself. Did you see what I do there? Clever, wasn’t it? No, I didn’t think it was either….

Emotionally Drained

So, just another 24 hours in the life of Liverpool Football Club then?

I don’t really have a huge desire to blog today, particularly after last nights efforts and even more so after watching the (unsurprisingly) emotional memorial service on BBC News earlier.

There are some efforts being made behind the scenes to sort things out around here. Not going to make promises but as much as our momentum is building as we head towards the end of the season, my will and desire to blog more seems to be increasing alongside it. Basically, expect a bit more around here soon. I promise.

Just don’t expect me to be doing much today, eh?

May the 96 RIP. You’ll never walk alone.
