Excuses

There are many reasons WHY I have not updated the site much over the summer.  These include;

  • I’m a lazy fecker
  • Lack of any real news (other than the small matter of a transfer of a midfielder than you may or may not have heard of)
  • Wii Sports Resort and gaming in general
  • Work
  • eBay
  • Work on eBay
  • I’m a lazy fecker

You get the idea.  I would also have thrown in some kind of excuse about the weather but it has been unremitting doom and gloom since pretty much the 1st July, so that one goes out the window straight away. And they promised us a “Barbeque summer”, pah!  Though it’s all the press’s fault for reporting that, obviously.

The news updates have been trickling through and apart from the odd nuggest here and there, it has been either news about Xabi, Javier or the fact that the club is about to be declared insolvent.  Or that the club is about to be declared insolvent if we don’t sell Javier and Xavi (it’s either got a B or a V in it.  Doesn’t really matter in all honesty now, does it?)

Catching Up

That has probably been the slackest week I’ve had here in a long time. And I can’t really use the excuse that it’s Summer as it’s been pretty crappy weather all round. As it is with most British summers.

Things haven’t helped that the only two important bits of news that have been floating around is the ongoing Will I/Wont I ever care about what happens with Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. I’ve discussed Xabi before and, in the best possible way, just wished he’d leave. Now. It’s got to the point where I really don’t care. The story itself is a bit like hearing a song at the start of the summer and enjoying it and by the end wishing that you could never hear it again (There’s one every summer, trust me.)

Add into that the fact that our Pre Season campaign has mimicked the weather in being rather sporadic and half-assed, you can see that my enthusiasm for the new season has yet to reach fever pitch. Or indeed any kind of pitch. It may well be just over three weeks away but my general feeling is one of blurgh. Perhaps the word lethargy but be a better word but the feeling remains the same.

From Very Left Field

So, there I was getting ready to comment on Glen Johnson’s arrival and Rafa’s pretty fair criticism of Gareth Barry when in the process of clearing the newsfeeds I came across this rather surprising story.

franckribery

ODDS SLASHED ON FRANCK RIBERY JOINING LIVERPOOL

Which left me feeling a little bemused. After all, there can be no way this is even remotely true. The money issues at the club prevent any kind of deal for a player of Ribery’s class going through and apart from anything else, where exactly would be play? Gerrard in the centre, Yossi and Riera or Dirk and Babel on either wing and Fernando up front? No place for him as far as I can see.

The size of the fee (upwards of £60m if Reals efforts are anything to go by) and that loyalty isn’t one of his strong suits (5 clubs in 5 years between 2000 and 2004) suggest that he is probably not what we are after. Add in the Gary Neville lookie-likey factor as a final nail in the coffin for this particularly story.  Besides, if we want a good two footed midfielder who can score from distance, then Wesley Sneidjer is the way forward on that front. Which I think I may have mentioned a couple of times now.
