And here is the NEWS!

Excuse the lack of news updates over the last few days, my bad. Pure laziness on the Sunday and the very moreish action of [Prototype] on the Monday. The latter certainly isn’t going to win any prizes for subtlety, or indeed a lot of other things, but it is quite a useful game to have around when you spend all day “interacting with the public”. Not entirely sure why I put that in quotation marks, make me sound like I work as some kind of Man of The Night. Which I can assure you I don’t. Any more.

A news update should sort itself over the next few hours but until then there are a couple of things I wanted to comment about. So, time for Jon Snow mode me thinks…

Not what it seems…

While checking the Liverpool FC feed at the Liverpool Echo website, this interesting story appeared.

peterkilfoyle

MPs bid to topple Liverpool FC owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett

That MP in particular, who’s name is Peter Kilfoyle, one of the longest serving and arguably well known Labour MPs. In fact, he’s so old he actually remembers when Labour actually stood for what it believes in rather that what it thinks will keep it in power. Anyway, reading through the story and you find yourself agreeing with several points;

“My concern is for the regeneration that is planned for the area around the new stadium which will not go ahead unless it is built.”

“At the current time there are a lot of conflicting demands for that money.”

and that

Mr Kilfoyle accepted RBS was still an “autonomous” organisation.

But he added: “The government has a great deal of influence, because it is the majority shareholder.”

New Season AHOY!

So, barely 3 weeks have passed since the old one had ended and already the next one is appearing over the horizon.

The fixtures are available from several places; the Premier League site fairly obviously has them, the Liverpool Echo has them, the Beeb has them and finally the Official Liverpool FC Website has them.  For some unknown reason, the football fixture list is copyrighted material so I wont take the risk of re-publishing them ALL here but looking at them, there are some encouraging signs, particularly towards the start of next season.

The opening seven games are very, very winnable. Certainly if we are not sitting with at least 18 points after these 7 games then we are going to be struggling going into October.

August
15  Tottenham (A)  (Lost 2-1)
19  Stoke (H)  (Drew 0-0)
22  Aston Villa (H)  (Won 5-0)
29  Bolton (A)  (Won 2-0)

September
12 Burnley (H)  (No Fixture)
19 West Ham (A)  (Won 3-0)
26 Hull (H)  (Drew 2-2)
